4 Companies That Let you Work from Home Taking Menu Orders

Did you know that there are companies out there that let you work from home taking simple menu orders? If you have ever had any type of customer service position and do not mind taking phone calls, this is likely right up your alley and a great way to earn extra money. I wish there had been more of these type of opportunities when I was younger. What a great way to earn extra income while in college!  Here is a list of 4 great companies that hire  work at home positions taking menu orders.

grubHub

grubHub is one of the first places I had originally heard of that hired from home. grubHub has over 35,000 restaurants in 900 US cities. Unfortunately, they do not hire in every state. Currently, they hire from Ohio, Florida, Nevada, Illinois, Arizona, Texas, Colorado and New Jersey. I would still apply even if you do not live in one of those states. You never know, businesses change their needs constantly. GrubHub requires a minimum of 20 hours per week. Their busiest days are Thursday through Sunday, so you may be working weekends. The pay has been stated to be around $13.50 per hour. GrubHub does their hiring through a company called NextRep. Here is NextRep’s sign up form to get started.

Pizza Hut

I was surprised to find out that Pizza Hut had a work from home position for taking orders. Who doesn’t love Pizza? Pizza Hut hires through ContractWorld, which offers several types of work from home customer service jobs. From what I understand, they pay .55 per order which equals out to between $7.50 to $10.50 an hour, depending on how busy it is. They want you to work during their busiest times (usually Thursday – Sunday) but this also equates to more money for you. The great thing about Pizza Hut is that you are in charge of your own schedule. They seem to be very flexible, only requiring you to log in for a minimum of 30 minutes each shift. The only downside I can find is that they require you to pay for training. This is a bit of a bummer, but this is an actual legitimate job and I can understand it from a business perspective. They also pay bi-monthly via direct deposit and hire in both the United States and Canada. Click here to apply.

DoorDash

DoorDash, established in 2013, is one of the older food delivery companies of this type. They pay per order (.35 per order) and state that you can make up to $15 per hour. From what I have heard, the average is closer to $10 per hour, however, I have heard they have a bonus system in place also. They are open from 7am to 10pm PST every day and allow you to choose the hours you work, but ask you to stick to the schedule you choose. The are an independent contractor, so no benefits, however, if you are not new to working from home, you’re probably used to this. Current positions available can be found here.

OrderUp

OrderUp is similar to grubHub however they are actually owned by Groupon.  I take that as a good sign, this is probably a pretty stable company that is only going to get more popular. Pay is $12 per hour. When positions are available, they will be listed here.

I think taking menu orders from home would be a really great job. The pay is pretty close to a lot of work from home customer service positions but there is a lot less stress with this type of job. I’m sure from time to time there may be unpleasant people, but I highly doubt it is like working in a customer service call center. One of my first jobs when I turned 18 was working for Sprint in their customer service department. The pay was less than a lot of these sites (granted this was about 11 years ago) and highly stressful. If I had these type of options then, I definitely would have made a switch.

Not sure which site to apply for? Check out Glassdoor.com. I love this site because it gives both past and present employees a way to comment on what they liked and disliked about the job. This is definitely a great way to find out if this is a good fit for you!
